It took me a little while, but I finally came up with mine:
FOCUS
Simple, easy, but with far-reaching impacts. Since I left my job, I've been pursuing other options, including the possibility of going to work for myself, but any of those options will require focus. I have two more semesters of school for my master's degree; this semester is shaping up to be a doozy with hard core, math-based theoretical classes that will require focus to maintain my 4.0. I'll be competing in a triathlon this June - performing well will require months of discipline and training and focus.
Anything I'm going to do, I need to be focused on, to maximize my chances of success. Steve Pavlina's blog post on Overwhelming Force comes to mind:
"Ask yourself, “What would it take for me not only to achieve this goal but to absolutely dominate it?” What would you consider overkill? Imagine your goal as if you’re planning a battle that you MUST win, regardless of the cost. Write down what you think it would take to be certain of success."
FOCUS...Follow One Course Until Successful...
...FOCUS...Fixed Ongoing Concentration, Unlimited Success...
Forging ahead
Overwhelming Force
Crushing resistance
Using time wisely
Staying the course...
What's your 2010 word of the year?
Focus would be my goal every year, so I feel your pain! Fortunately it's something that you CAN hack with various disciplines and habits. I've struggled with it so much that I've built software to help, but really, we all have our own ways...but ways that work.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, Adam, you have my best wishes for 2010!
