Switching to a Swiss Ball

After just a couple weeks of sitting on an impossibly-huge desk chair, I realized I was sitting with terrible posture and was actually tired after sitting around all day.  (Side note: "sitting around all day" = working in front of the computer, putting together cover letters, resumes, networking, programming, etc.)

I decided to take matters into my own hands by switching to a swiss ball for the majority of my day.  I over-inflated mine just slightly so that it would be at the right height for my desk, but the result is great.  I'm sitting up much straighter, and my core is constantly engaged trying to balance on the thing.

I know there's plenty of information about the benefits of sitting on a swiss ball, and Google can tell you all you'd ever want to know, but let me just say the main benefit is that it makes you feel like not a slacker.  For me, it's most important because of my word-of-the-year, focus.  It helps me feel like I'm focused, engaged, and getting things done.  Another benefit (which I just thought of) is that whereas the Aeron chair costs $1500, a decent swiss ball costs about $20 at Target or Wal-Mart.

Just food for thought...
