- Chaos, by James Gleick - an interesting look at the formation of the new science. I didn't realize that Mandelbrot was still alive. Also have finally learned how to interpret a bifurcation diagram.
- "Portrait of a n00b", by Steve Yegge - a look at "compression tolerance," and the idea that young programmers create frameworks of comments to help them organize their code, whereas senior programmers tend to obviate comments in favor of denser, more expressive code.
- "A Story Culture", by Rands In Repose - a look at the hierarchy of information, from data to information to knowledge to wisdom. How to organize information into knowledge and create something memorable. Are we as a society moving towards 140-character sound bytes? Is this a good thing?
- "The World Belongs to Those Who Hustle", from the Art of Manliness - A get-off-your-ass-and-do-it kind of piece. Mentions Teddy Roosevelt, who apparently read thousands of books, held numerous political positions, and was shot and still delivered a speech. Ridiculous.
